Danny Elfman(丹尼 叶夫曼)于1953年5月29日生于德州，他的父亲是一名老师，母亲则是一名小说家，并且曾以电视剧本获得艾美奖。虽然出生在德州，但是Danny Elfman在洛杉矶渡过他的童年，１８岁时移居法国，并且加入了当地的表演艺术剧团，由于有许多接触各类音乐元素的机会，Elfman的音乐生涯也在自我摸索中展开，之后他曾经旅居非洲，几年后返回美国，并组织了一支名为“The Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo”的乐团，这支乐团后来曾更名为“Oingo Boingo”，直到1995年才正式解散，这支科技摇滚乐团表演了Danny Elfman的第一部电影配乐，这一部电影则是他的哥哥Richard Elfman的作品《Forbidden Zone》，只是这完全是一个无心插柳的作品，Danny Elfman并不曾想过自己有一天会成为一名电影配乐家，只不过这是一个自家人拍的电影，自己又是玩音乐的，理当拔刀相助，但是这个作品却受到了导演蒂姆?波顿（Tim Burton）的注意，Tim Burton当时正在筹拍自己的电影处女作《Pee-Wee's Big Adventure》，他力邀Danny Elfman为这部影片配乐，日后Danny Elfman回想起来，心中仍然十分纳闷，蒂姆?波顿当初怎么想到要找一个玩摇滚乐团的人来做管弦电影音乐，只是既然导演认为行的通，Danny Elfman觉得也不妨一试，于是他找来了“Oingo Boingo”的另一名成员Steve Bartek，将他为《Pee-Wee's Big Adventure》所作的音乐做交响编曲的处理，结果完成了风格十分独特的电影配乐，不仅就此展开Danny Elfman和Tim Burton十多年的合作无间，也展开了Danny Elfman独树一帜，特立独行的电影配乐生涯。
